Finding Jesus
By Rick Ezell
Shortly before his recent death, ex-Beatle George Harrison was asked about his spiritual journey. The question was apt since it was Harrison who introduced the Beatles to Eastern religion in the 60s and (after the group broke up) wrote the song "My Sweet Lord" (a hymn of praise to the Hindu deity Krishna). To the end of his life, Harrison continued to investigate spiritual matters. He summed up his priorities this way: "Everything else in life can wait, but the search for God cannot wait."
We were made to know God and nothing is more important than filling the "God-shaped vacuum" inside every heart. Nothing this world offers can take the place of knowing God. If you live 30 or 50 or 70 or 90 years and you don't find God, then it doesn't matter what else you have done with your life. If you don't find God, you have missed the very reason for your existence. If you miss out on knowing God, you have missed the central reality of the universe. Compared to knowing the One who made you, everything else is just crumbs and nibbling around the edges.
Simeon spent his entire life committed to the task of looking for the Messiah.
"It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord's Messiah" (Luke 2:26 HCSB).
His look was not a casual observance. It wasn't a passing glance nor was it a nonchalant peek-I'll see him if he jumps out in front of me. His looking was intentional. He was on a mission, a search for the Christ child. It was an honest, sincere investigation for the Savior. And nothing would stand in his way. He would wait for the Savior to show up, but he could not wait to begin the search.
Are you hungry for spiritual truth? Do you want to experience the Savior? Many things can't wait, but the search for God cannot.
Augustine said: "You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you." Are you restless for the Savior? Are you desperate to find him?

ReplyDeleteEmerson Fitapaldi the famous Brazilian race car driver was a close friend of George Harrison. Emerson almost lost his life in a race accident and during that time of convalescence he received Christ as his Saviour and Lord. He visited George during the last months of his life and presented the gospel to him. According to Emerson, George did accept Christ as Saviour!
