Lament: a passionate expression of grief or sorrow.
Unlike most of the Beach Boys' passionate expression songs, this one is not directed to a friend, a lover or that no-good ex-boyfriend of the singer's dreams.
In this lament, the singer can only be speaking to the one who has the power to "let the wind blow," the authority to "let the moon glow," the causality to "let the grass grow." Without mentioning Almighty God, the singer is nonetheless directing his pleas Godward.
In essence, he is yielding to God's direction; "Thy king come come, thy will be done on earth..." but he also has a plea. He laments the possibility of losing the one he loves ("don't take her out of my life"). Everyone who prays has prayed a similar prayer; sometimes daily. A prayer like this, a passionate petitioning, pleading, to the Lord, is actually a prayer of faith, hope, and love. Faith that God exists and actually hears our prayer. Hope God will respond with the blessing we request. Love for others ("let the poor find money; take away their sorrows; give them sunshine tomorrow") even as he is begging to keep the woman he loves in his life.
Let The Wind Blow. A love song. Poetic expression. But for some, a reminder to pray. Because everything that matters to you, matters to God.
Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel. Philippians 4:6-7Contemporary English Version (CEV)
Let the wind blow
Let the grass grow
But don't let her go
Let the grass grow
But don't let her go
Don't take her out of my life
Don't take her out of my life
Don't take her out of my life
Let the moon glow
(Let the moon glow)
(On the fallen snow)
On the fallen snow
(Let the moon glow)
(On the fallen snow)
(Let the moon glow)
(On the fallen snow)
On the fallen snow
(Let the moon glow)
(On the fallen snow)
But I just got to know
(Let me please know oh oh oh)
Know she'll be a part of my life
Know she'll be a part of my life
Forever
(Let me please know oh oh oh)
Know she'll be a part of my life
Know she'll be a part of my life
Forever
Let the bees make honey
Let the poor find money
Take away their sorrows
Give them sunshine tomorrow
Let the poor find money
Take away their sorrows
Give them sunshine tomorrow
But don't take her out of my life
Don't take her out of my life
What would I do without her tell me now
Don't take her out of my life
What would I do without her tell me now
Let the bird sing
With the coming spring
Let the church bells ring
Let the rain fall
Let the grass grow
Let the moon glow
On the fallen snow
With the coming spring
Let the church bells ring
Let the rain fall
Let the grass grow
Let the moon glow
On the fallen snow
But don't take her out of my life
Please keep her a part of my life
Please keep her a part of my life
