Pray For Surf Podcast
"Our Prayers ~ As Inspired by The Beach Boys"
Phil Miglioratti invited Jeffrey Foskett (The Beach Boys; Brian Wilson Band), Philip Bardowell (Beach Boys Band, Jan & Dean Band), Chuck Girard (Hondells lead singer, Love Song), and Dan Addington (early Dennis Wilson researcher) for a roundtable conversation on the spirituality of the music of The Beach Boys.
Focusing on their personal experiences, they discuss a surprising diversity of songs that include "God Only Knows," "When I Grow Up To Be A Man," "'Til I Die," "You Still Believe in Me," "The Ballad of Ole' Betsy" (no foolin'), "Let The Wind Blow," "Walking Down the Path of Life," "God Did It," "Little Bird," "Be Still, and "Dreamer." Prepared this list for the podcast - a few were discussed - my biggest surprise were the tunes the panel came up with that were not on my radar screen!
ReplyDeleteKey to (just) my thinking:
-A few Beach Boys songs are written/sung as a prayer
-Some are prayerful in that they have a reflective, spiritual, tone
-Some turn-into a prayer when I consider the singer speaking to God rather than a person
