My Amazon Review~ Sunshine Tomorrow 2: the studio sessions

I don't know where but Brian sends me there.
Listening to these deconstructed songs is a jarring, joyous experience!

In 1968, when I bought a copy of "Stack-O-Tracks" I had not idea of the mind-blowing listening experience I was in for. Even though "Stack-o-Tracks was seen by many at the time as a desperate last-ditch effort by Capitol Records to try anything to sell Beach Boys material," [Wikipedia] hearing the instruments-only versions of a set of Beach Boys tunes opened my ears to sounds I had heard without knowing it.

"Sunshine Tomorrow" takes us into the studio to listen to the pieces Brian, well, pieced together, to create two amazing (and under rated) albums.

"Little Pad" not your thing. Listen to the sounds, not the song. Fall in love with "Wind Chimes" all-over again."Gettin' Hungry" had additional background vocals? "Aren't You Glad." Wow. "Darlin'" How did Top 40 radio miss this? A Cappella "Let the Wind Blow" becomes a prayer to God.

I know Brian knows best, but IMHO, some of the sounds left out would have improved the song from which they were never heard.

  1. Gotta add ~ Listen to the pristine vocals The Beach Boys recorded in studio for the "Lei'd in Hawaii" (not completely) LIVE concert album. Oh my. Different pacing. Fresh feel. A little change or two ...
