The idea for this list came from The 10 Commandments of the Bible.
And the spiritual inspiration I receive from the music of The Beach Boys.
Alan, Brian, Bruce, Carl, David, Dennis, Mike
In the Ten Commandments, God speaks in the first-person with statements about how to relate to God and how to relate to people.
The songs I’ve selected are first-person statements that can be applied to how to relate to God (worship), people (friendship) and the environment (stewardship).
I selected songs that connect me to those themes (identified by the lyrics).
I hear/read each song title as if it were spoken by God.
I’ve included Scripture references from the Bible that give an example or explanation to the "Thou Shalt..." statement.
The list can be a prompt for personal reflection or prayer, small group discussion, as the order-of-service in a church setting. Or, just for some fun, fun, fun.
Listen to the song (or replay a snippet in your mind).

On earth as it is in heaven

As we forgive those who sin against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory
Forever ... Amen! ... Amen!"
Thou Shalt ... Wake The World to Celebrate The News that He Come Down
Wake the world with a brand-new morning
Say hello to another fine morning

He came down down down down down down down
Yes I mean down down down down
Yes he did
From the glorious kingdom

Celebrate The News -
There's been a change
Beautiful and strange
My life's gone through a change
Somehow I know
All good things here at last
So now we'll grow
There's been a change
I got news for you
There ain't no blues
I got news for you
Listen to the boys loud and clear
Come on folks withstand you fears
Sail away the choice is yours you choose
Celebrate the news
There ain't no blues
Come on, come on,
Thou Shalt ... Add Some Music To Your Day because I Write The Songs
The Sunday morning Gospel goes good with the soul ...
Your doctor knows it keeps you calm
Your preacher adds it to his psalms, so
There's blues, folk, and country, and rock like a rolling stone
The world could come together as one
If everybody under the sun ... Add some music to your day
I've been alive forever
And I wrote the very first song
I put the words and the melodies together
I am music and I write the songs
I write the songs that make the whole world sing
I write the songs of love and special things
I write the songs that make the young girls cry
I write the songs, I write the songs
My home lies deep within you
And I've got my own place in your soul
Now, when I look out through your eyes
I'm young again, even though I'm very old
Oh my music makes you dance
And gives you spirit to take a chance
And I wrote some rock 'n' roll so you can move
Music fills your heart
Well, that's a real fine place to start
It's from me it's for you
It's from you, it's for me
It's a worldwide symphony
I am music and I write the songs
That Same Song
Well back in time with just a rhythm and rhyme
Gregorian chants were a real big thing
They took that chant and added harmony
It was a different sound
But had the same meaning
The rock of ages
Built that rockin' sound
'Til more and more people start to come around
They worshipped in church
And built that great big choir
It grew and it grew
Until it spread like fire
I know (I know) I know (I know)
It took us a long while
To go (to go) to go (to go)
And find us a rock style
I know (I know) I know (I know)
That we can take it one more mile
Because
We're singing that same song
We're still singing that same song
We're singing that same song
That same song ,That same song, Same song that same song
“Play the guitar as you lift your praises loaded with thanksgiving. Sing and make joyous music with all you’ve got inside. Psalm 33:2
Lift-up a great shout of joy to God!Go ahead and do it—everyone, everywhere!
Worship Yahweh [the God who "Is" (past, present, future)] with gladness.
Sing your way into his presence with joy!
And realize what this really means—we have the privilege of worshiping Yahweh our God.
For he is our Creator, and we belong to him.
We are the people of his pleasure.
You can pass through his open gates with the password of praise.
Come right into his presence with thanksgiving.
Come bring your thank offering to him
and affectionately bless his beautiful name!
For Yahweh is always good and ready to receive you.
He’s so loving that it will amaze you—so kind that it will astound you!
And he is famous for his faithfulness toward all.
Everyone knows our God can be trusted, for he keeps his promises to every generation! Psalm 100
Thou Shalt ... Let The Wind Blow
Live in the flow of God’s Spirit (Spirit = "wind") ... because when you catch a wave, you're sitting on top of the world … Fear not. Don't back down!
But I just got to know ... Let me please know oh oh oh
Let the bees make honey
Let the poor find money. Take away their sorrows. Give them sunshine tomorrow
Let the bird sing with the coming spring
Let the church bells ring
Let the rain fall, let the grass grow, let the moon glow on the fallen snow
But _______________

Let the wind blow...
"Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life," Philippians 4:6
"Be filled with the Holy Spirit and constantly guided by Him." Ephesians 5:18
"They were all together in one place ... Suddenly a noise came from heaven. It sounded like a strong wind blowing. This noise filled the whole house where they were sitting. They were all filled [indwelt; empowered] with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages [so the international crowd could all hear the message in their language]. The Holy Spirit was giving them the power to do this. Acts2:1-4
“Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart, rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make.”
Thou Shalt ... Sail On Sailor
Hit it hard along life's Long Promised Road
I sailed an ocean, unsettled ocean
Through restful waters and deep commotion
Often frightened, unenlightened
Sail on, sail on sailor
But I hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roadblocks a-stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down
“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” Romans 5:3-5
“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:7
Don't Go Near The Water ...to do it any wrong
Don't go near the water ... Don't you think it's sad
What's happened to the water ... Our water's going bad
Oceans, rivers, lakes and streams have all been touched by man
The poison floating out to sea now threatens life on land
Don't go near the water - Ain't it sad
What's happened to the water; It's going bad
Don't go near the water ... Don't go near the water
Toothpaste and soap will make our oceans a bubble bath
So let's avoid an ecological aftermath
Beginning with me ... Beginning with you
Don't go near the water, to do it any wrong
To be cool with the water is the message of this song
Let's all help the water... Right away
Do what we can and ought to...Let's start today
Blue pacific, as azure as the sky
God help me for whale babies that cry
Live let live, not die
Feature creatures of God
Let them abound, where they are found
Let's get the hell outta here...
Don't fight the sea
Don't fight the sea
Just let it be
“The Lord God planted a garden in Eden and placed in the garden the man he had formed. Then the Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and guard it.” Genesis 2:8, 15
Thou Shalt ... make Friends because You Need A Mess of Help To Stand Alone
Find cohorts for your faith journey on the long promised road
I need the warmth of your smile
To heat my frostbitten sorrow
I need your hand on my shoulder
To lead today's to tomorrows
I need your strength to lock me to the track
I need your trust to bust the things I lack
Belief I cried
Ain't no shuck 'n' jive
I need a mess of help to stand alone
Let's be friends
Let's be friends
Let's be friends
Jesus said to his closest followers: "A master doesn’t confide in his servants, and servants don’t always understand what the master is doing. But I call you my most intimate and cherished friends, for I reveal to you everything that I’ve heard from my Father." John 15:15
"Take a constant interest in the needs of God’s beloved people and respond by helping them. And eagerly welcome people as guests into your home". Romans 12:13
“As we have opportunity, we must work for the good of all.”
Thou Shalt... remember that God Did It, as you are Walking Down the Path of Life!
You have made known to me the paths of life;
You will fill me with joy in your presence. Acts 2:28
"Only God understands the way to wisdom, and he alone knows where it lives," Job 28:28
"Lord, you know everything there is to know about me.
You perceive every movement of my heart and soul,
and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.
You are so intimately aware of me, Lord.
You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence!
You know every step I will take before my journey even begins.
You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past.
You have laid your hand on me!
This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible!
Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength.
Wherever I go, your hand will guide me; your strength will empower me.
It’s impossible to disappear from you or to ask the darkness to hide me for your presence is everywhere, bringing light into my night.
There is no such thing as darkness with you.
The night, to you, is as bright as the day; there’s no difference between the two.
You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb.
You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place; carefully, skillfully you shaped me[f] from nothing to something.
I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex!
Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it!
How thoroughly you know me, Lord!
You saw who you created me to be before I became me!
Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book.
Every single moment you are thinking of me!
How precious and wonderful to considerthat you cherish me constantly in your every thought!
O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore!
When I awake each morning, you’re still with me.
God, I invite your searching gaze into my heart.
Examine me through and through; find everything that may be hidden within me
Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares.
See if there is any path of pain I’m walking on, and lead me back to your glorious, everlasting way—the path that brings me back to you. From Psalm 139
