“Little Honda” Lead Singer Documentary
Chuck Girard and Gary Usher's Hot Rod Music Collaborations
- The Hondells: Chuck Girard sang lead vocals on the group's biggest national hit, the #9 single "Little Honda" (a Beach Boys cover written by Brian Wilson). He was the primary lead vocalist for their first two albums, which were produced by Gary Usher.
- The Super Stocks: The Super Stocks were one of several studio-only groups assembled by Gary Usher, often using the same session musicians (including members of The Wrecking Crew). Girard was part of this studio group and contributed vocals to the Super Stocks and other Usher projects, such as Mr. Gasser & the Weird-Ohs and the Revells.
- Studio Musician Role: In his memoir, Rock & Roll Preacher, Girard describes his time as part of Usher's studio group, recording many surf and hot rod albums under various names.
Girard later became a pioneer of Contemporary Christian Music as a founding member and lead singer of the band Love Song in the 1970s.
